Vote map accuracy audit

Vote counts: all 69 precincts match
Every FOR and AGAINST count and every precinct code in the original map matches the Washington County official results issued March 13, 2026, pages 198–200. The citywide result is 7,557 FOR and 7,339 AGAINST: 14,896 valid votes and a 218-vote FOR margin.
The contest total is 15,253 ballots, including 357 blank Q8 votes (undervotes) and zero overvotes. The updated map distinguishes valid votes from all ballots. Percentages use FOR + AGAINST as their denominator and are shown to two decimal places.
Ward calculations: complete and reconciled
The Election Commission's August 21, 2026 table assigns all 69 precincts to exactly one ward. Ward 1 has 18 precincts, Ward 2 has 15, Ward 3 has 17, and Ward 4 has 19. Fay 09a and Fay 09b remain separate and both belong to Ward 1. Aggregating the four wards reproduces the official citywide totals exactly.
Geography: authoritative geometry replaces simplified outlines
The map now uses all 69 Fayetteville precinct features from the Arkansas GIS Office. Each feature's precinct name and current precinct code matches the official results. The latest edit date on these records is October 17, 2025, before the election. The downloaded shapes have no material area overlaps.
Ward outlines are formed by merging the precincts assigned to each ward, so the shapes and counts use the same membership. As a cross-check, each precinct's greatest area overlap is with the ward assigned in the commission's table. The merged outlines and the city's separate ward layer differ slightly; they are separate GIS datasets and should not be treated as survey boundaries. No votes are allocated by land area.
The Lewis Fields marker lies inside the city's Lewis Soccer Complex park polygon and inside Fay 03, Ward 2. It identifies the park, not a proposed construction footprint.
Interface corrections
- Added a precinct/ward toggle with complete ward totals and a way to inspect each ward's constituent precincts.
- Replaced CARTO backgrounds displaying “API key required” watermarks with OpenStreetMap and Esri backgrounds.
- Bound result popups when the map loads, so list selection opens details without a prior map click.
- Used exact counts and two-decimal percentages consistently; a narrow majority is no longer displayed as a rounded tie.
- Made result controls keyboard-accessible and stacked the map and results on narrow screens.
- Added search, ward filtering, sorting, reset, park focus, shareable selections, CSV downloads and print-friendly result tables.
- Enabled mouse-wheel zoom over the map, capped zooming out at a centered view of every precinct, and recalculated that limit when the viewport changes. Close zoom is supported up to level 24, with background imagery enlarged beyond its native resolution.
- Kept opacity consistent after selection and hover. Clear selection removes the map highlight.
- Bundled the map library locally. If background tiles fail, the vote outlines and results remain available.
Interpretation limits
These records show choices on Question 8 bond funding. They do not establish why someone voted FOR or AGAINST, whether they supported a particular site, or how nonvoters felt. Large colored areas do not imply large numbers of votes. Small precincts can show extreme percentages from very few votes; the map displays the vote count beside every result.
